With waste now recognised as an ever increasing major problem linked to key issues such as climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, global warming and pollution, the West Sussex County Council Waste Prevention Advisor scheme was set up to support the existing waste prevention initiatives in the County. Over 150 West Sussex resident volunteers have now received expert training in waste prevention and reduction.  These Waste Prevention Advisors are now actively promoting waste prevention in their local communities and increasing awareness of waste management issues.

The project is a partnership between West Sussex County Council, District and Borough councils in the County and the University of Brighton.  Better Tomorrows Community Interest Company has been established as a vehicle to drive forward behavioural and cultural change within the community in order to meet the requirements of living our lives in a more sustainable manner.

The company ethos is engagement with the community, by the community, for the good of the community. It develops and manages innovative projects that contribute to sustainability by reducing, reusing, recycling waste as well as preventing waste in the first place.

Our aim is to stop rubbish going in the bin

Tip of the Week

You'll grow into them!  Here is another brilliant way to re-use textiles. Don't throw away old pairs of tights - cut the legs off and fill them with compost to make a mini grow bag.

Simply tie the open end and cut small holes along the length for planting vegetables or flowers. Alternatively, use old tights to make soft plant ties to tie larger plants to stakes.
